In an effort to get you to subscribe to HBO because you love the pilot for “The Newsroom” just that much, the not-for-free company has put the pilot episode up on Youtube, where you can view it for free. I already have, since I follow Sorkin wherever he goes. You can view the pilot, in all of it’s long-winded goodness, by clicking on the poster below:
After watching, I went on a bit of a Tweetathon and instead of saying the same thing again, I figured I’d bless you with my thoughts at that exact moment, all 140 characters at a time:
Just watched #Newsroom – as a Sorkin megafan it was great to see his words back on the small screen. An above average pilot overall.
There are some character issues which is bad for TV but maybe with more episodes some of the assholes will become less assholey.
Mortimer is great, Waterston is a convincing drunk & John Gallagher Jr as Jim Harper looks to be one of the best characters Sorkin has made.
I didn’t love it like I loved either the Sports Night or the Studio 60 pilots, but I’ll be sticking around to see what happens for sure.
And it also makes me wanna splurge and go buy the complete West Wing series and plow through it because I know that I would love it. #Sorkin
…
Take that for what you will. It’s at the very least entertaining (as all of Sorkin’s worlds are) and if you have the hour, I’d say you should.
