Welcome to Double Feature Fridays, a weekly competition in which I challenge YOU to pair the week’s new releases with your favourite older or classic films.
Each week I name the new theatrical releases as well as a few other bonus picks of my choice. Your job is to comment with what other movie you’d like to screen in a double bill with the given films, and why. You can pick any movie you want – recent, classic, whatever – just be sure get your answers in by Thursday June 28, so the judges have enough time to make their decision.
I’ll get to the movies for this week in just a second, but first it’s time to list off last week’s winners. Fingers crossed you are among them.
ROUND 3 WINNERS:
Andy, who paired Rock of Ages with Cabaret.
Nolahn, who paired That’s My Boy with Back to School.
Trey, who paired The Woman in the Fifth with Last Tango in Paris.
Bubbawheat, who paired Serpico with Insomnia.
Andrew Robinson, who paired The White Ribbon with Children on the Corn.
Congratulations to the winners, you updated scores have been tallied in the leaderboard at the bottom of the page. Bad luck to everyone who missed out – the good news is, you get another chance to compete…right now!!! You’re films for this week are:

Brave with Brave heart (they are both set in Scotland and sound similar)
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter with Young Mr. Lincoln (two fictionalized versions of the early life of the American president, not sure which is closest to the truth)
The Invisible War with Twist of Faith (Kirby Dick doc double bill both with difficult subject matter)
Raging Bull with Bull Durham (two of the best sports movies ever, and they both have Bull in the title)
The second rule, well, lets just say the rules haven’t changed since Double Feature Friday #3 so I am not going to discuss the other film on the list.

I can’t believe I had forgotten about this one, but I’m not going to ask to change my answer since it hasn’t been released yet. But Abe Lincoln would be perfect with FDR: American Badass!
