DOUBLE FEATURE FRIDAY #2.11

by

Welcome to Double Feature Fridays, a weekly competition in which I challenge YOU to pair the week’s new releases with your favourite older or classic films.

Each week I name the new theatrical releases as well as a few other bonus picks of my choice. Your job is to comment with what other movie you’d like to screen in a double bill with the given films, and why. You can pick any movie you want – recent, classic, whatever – just be sure get your answers in by Thursday August 16th, so the judges have enough time to make their decision.

I’ll get to the movies for this week in just a second, but first it’s time to list off last week’s winners. Fingers crossed you are among them.

ROUND 10 WINNERS:

Nolahn, who paired Total Recall with The Adjustment Bureau.

Andrew Crump, who paired Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days with The Goonies and Machete with Black Dynamite.

Squasher88, who paired Celeste and Jesse Forever with When Harry Met Sally.

Dan, who paired Glory with Red Tails.

Congratulations to the winners, you updated scores have been tallied in the leaderboard at the bottom of the page. Bad luck to everyone who missed out – the good news is, you get another chance to compete…right now!!! Your films for this week are:

The Bourne Legacy

The Campaign

Hope Springs

Red Hook Summer

Bonus: Predator

Time to put on those thinking caps! Sound off in the comments section below with which films you’d like to pair with this weeks selections.

  • Go go go!

THE BOURNE LEGACY with MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL (Blown Program, Spies On The Run DF)
THE CAMPAIGN with BOB ROBERTS (duh)
HOPE SPRINGS with IT’S COMPLICATED (Meryl Gets Frisky DF)
RED HOOK SUMMER with DO THE RIGHT THING (Mookie DF)
PREDATOR with SPECIES (The Alien Gets Its Man DF)

  • The Bourne Legacy with North By Northwest: two spy films which matters of identity figure strongly into!

The Campaign with In the Loop: timid political satire with scathing, fearless political satire!

Hope Springs with 2003’s Hope Springs: randy Streep with heartbroken Firth!

Red Hook Summer with The Wackness: coming of age during a hot New York summer!

Predator with Terminator 2: why not do a double feature of Ah-nuld’s two best (arguably!) films?

  • The Bourne Legacy with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
    The Campaign with The Candidate
Hope Springs with Something’s Gotta Give
    Red Hook Summer with Crooklyn
    Predator with Total Recall

  • The Bourne Legacy with The Bourne Ultimate (Bourne films)
The Campaign with Election (election comedies)
Hope Springs with Shame (movies about sex)
Red Hook Summer with Crooklyn (Spike Lee/Brooklyn)
    Predator with E.T. (extra-terrestrials)

  • The Bourne Legacy with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (unnecessary and unworthy fourth films in otherwise great film series)
The Campaign with The Ides of March (serious and comic looks at elections)
Hope Springs with The Ice Storm (troubled relationships)
Red Hook Summer with Dogma (comedy about religion)
Predator with Alien (Forget the crappy Alien V Predator movies and watch the two great originals)
