I am a whore for shoes, shoe whore, shoe horde, whatever……….as long as shoes are involved I’m interested. Wardrobe is a huge aspect of the way a film is presented to us and how we perceive it and sometimes it can have a very lasting affect in positive, negative, humorous, or serious way. My ode to all realms of shoe use in movies is best explored through this list.
10. “TERRORIST SHOES SMALLER THAN HIS SISTERS”

By Die Hard 2 John McClane had found himself some shoes, but during the better portion of the first of John McClanes adventures he was shoeless and when he tried on a pair of one of the terrorists shoes he claimed with dismay, “These shoes are smaller than my sisters”. His naked feet made for some great movie moments, so thank you shoes too small.
9. “TEQUILIA SHOES”

When Peewee breaks it down to “Tequila” he dons this magnificent platforms and shows us how to work it. A great moment in comedy that is forever rooted and noted with that song.
8. “THE SHOE THROW”

“Who throws a shoe?” Hilarious. Austin Powers tongue in cheek jesting at Bond and Bond like films come threw at it’s most poignant with jabs at it’s ridiculous villains, and Jon Son (EW, IMDB his bio) as Random Task is no exception. The man who’s talent is throwing a shoe. I mean, really?
7. ‘LLYOD’S FURRY BOOTS”

Excessive and exaggerated ridiculousness are the benchmarks that keep Dumb and Dumber in all capacities of an unforgettable comedy. Jeff Daniels as Lloyd in this fantabulous boots that I’m pretty sure have been taken seriously by a small sized Jersey Shore meatball is absolute comedic genius.
6. “THE GLASS SLIPPER”

I’m noting Ever After as the film that represents this shoe best even though several versions have been made over the years. Even though this version lacks the “glass” component it is still the same, besides the fact that this version is by far my favorite romantic movie ever. It’s one of the first shoes people think of when it comes to shoes in movies.
5. DAGGER SHOES

You can’t do a list about special costumes, apparel, accessories, or vehicles without finding something pretty epic from a James Bond film. Random Task exists for this outlandish, yet simply awesome ideas, and the Dagger shoes that were in From Russia With Love are no exception.
4. “NIKE MAGS”

Marty McFly travels to the year 2015 (slightly more advanced than we are at this point) in Back To The Future 2. He gets these pretty impressive shoes that automatically fit themselves on your feet. In fact, they are for sale on the web today if you want to buy them.
3. “SNAKE SHOE”

There are plenty of snakes to daunt Indy’s attempts at finding all his goodies, but the actual tomb covered in them created more than a fear crippling moment. When his lady loses one of her white heels that have a hole in the toe, one of the most memorable and eerie scenes is the snakes slithering through it. Eww. And I dig me a snake.
2. “HOOKER BOOTS”

Is “Pretty Woman” where this terminology stemmed from? It was the catalyst for this list as it was both memorable for it’s sexiness but also the comedy quality it brought to the film. From the “safety pin holding her boot up” to the excellent scene in the elevator it set the tone for a film that was romantic, sexy, but also funny.
1. “RUBY SLIPPERS”

The Ruby Slippers as the obvious answer from The Wizard of Oz might be a foregone conclusion but there is no question these are the most memorable, recognizable and most story driven pair of shoes ever mentioned on film, save perhaps Cinderella’s slippers, which I’m not particularly fond of that story. Even in the forties Dorothy had the power within herself to get home, while Cinderella had others helping her the whole way along.
Remember, we here at Man, I Love Films don’t do definitive lists. We do our favorites and we want to hear yours. So, make sure and tell us about them in the comments section below.

Cracking list as usual Heather…without wanting to sound blatantly sexist…perhaps a list only a woman could write..?
…I know I’d struggle to come up with a list like this!
…I suppose its one of those things I don’t generally notice but as I was reading this list I was thinking…”Oh Yeah” and “Of Course, why didn’t I think of that!”
…Can’t fault your number one – the ruby slippers…surely the most iconic shoes ever committed to celluloid. Love the inclusion of Dumb and Dumber and of course the Back To The Future Nikes!

Thank you Dan. I know the Ruby Slippers are obvious as number one but they do deserve the spot.
I enjoyed this list as well. I’d probably add the “You” and “Me” shoes from “You & Me & Everyone We Know” for honorable mention.

I’m surprised you didn’t put in the shoes from Elizabethtown, aka the shoes that nearly drove Orlando Bloom to suicide.

A most excellent list Heather! Marty’s kicks and the Bond Dagger shoes would’ve been the first to come to mind were I making this list.
I’d give an Honorable mention to the Dude’s jellies because it’s so… Dude. Also, Flyguy’s dead fish platforms in I’m Gonna Git You Sucka are fabulous!
As per your request, looked up Joe Son on IMDb… Ugh!

Yeah, I expected some kind of quirky trivia like “he mails fans autographed shoes,” not the despicable shit there.

This list is truly inspired, Heather.
When I saw the topic I thought, “Really? Ten shoes?” Yes really. Ten shoes, with others that could have made it, like Forrest Gump’s “Magic Shoes” and the The Red Shoes from the Powell/Pressberger film of the same name.
GREAT job on this!

I just thought of Alicia Silverstones clogs from Clueless too! It wasn’t easy but I hadn’t done one completely bizarre in a moon. Thank you!

OOOH good one and I’m remembering the Super Mario Brothers boots right now too!
Gotta love the Mario boots. For some reason, those made my mind jump and remember the fish boots from 40-Year-Old Virgin that Jonah Hill wants to buy in the eBay store.

I was dying when he asked if he could just buy them there and she explained he’d have to online. Hahahaha, excellent choice Nick.
What? No bunny slippers from “Real Genius”? As a diehard, engineering loving, card carrying geek, I can only say ~gasps!~

Sorry Jim. I’ve never seen it, but I dig bunnies so I feel like not only have I slighted you but also the entire bunny animal race. Hopefully that assassin bunny doesn’t find me.

I’d throw out the fish aquarium platforms that Jonah Hill wants to buy from Keener’s Ebay store in 40 Y/O Virgin.

Yeah, that was going to be my addition.
Ach… after posting my comment, I also remembered Fly Guy’s aquarium shoes from I’m Gonna Git You, Sucka. He was the pimp of the year, so you have to trust his taste in shoes.

What about Will Smith’s Converse, circa 2004 from I, Robot? Certainly those are iconic enough.
Certainly.
