Not much to say about this one other than it may rival my Top 5 Rocks in Movies list. Enjoy:
HONORABLE MENTION #1: SHARON STONE’S IN BASIC INSTINCT.
Anyone that knows me knows this would be my #1. My partner for the site, Dylan, thought that would cause this list to lose credibility as it would be a novelty pick. Well, we certainly wouldn’t want Kai’s Top 5 Boxes in Movies to lose credibility as being a list just done for it’s novelty. Now, there isn’t a tool to highlight the sarcasm in that last sentence so I’ll just say it was drenched in it. All that being said, here’s to vaginas in film everywhere with a particular to Sharon Stone’s for being the greatest scene stealer of them all.
HONORABLE MENTION #2: THE IMAGINARY SQUARE IN PULP FICTION.
One of the dozens of small touches that make Pulp Fiction a classic film is this great shot where Mia Wallace tells Vincent Vega to stop being such a “square”. Now, there in lies why it’s only an honorable mention. I don’t feel like having the whole box vs. square debate… as if none of you have ever been to the doctor and had to “check the box that applies”. So, to save the headache, I’ll throw it an honorable mention.
5. THE COFFIN IN BURIED.
There have been hundreds of coffins depicted in film but I have to give a special shot out to the one in Buried for being the entire set of this completely under-appreciated film.
4. “THE BOX” IN COOL HAND LUKE.
“The Box” in Cool Hand Luke (one of the few pre-1970 films I actually admit to knowing and loving) is pretty much the coffin from Buried turned up on it’s side. Another similarity it shares with that box is that solitary confinement has been depicted in hundreds of films as well but “The Box” has always seemed, by far, the least appealing.
3. THE SHIT-BOX IN SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.
Quite simply the most famous outhouse in the history of cinema simply for the fact that it has an escape hatch in the bottom of it. One I suggest YOU NEVER USE!!! That is, unless you want to look like that kid (above).
2. THE BOX IN THE BOX.
The Box was a great film premise gone horribly wrong. However, the box itself was bad-ass. My only complaint is, within the film, I think Cameron Diaz should’ve had to say “Big Bucks! No Whammies!” before pressing the button.
1. THE SPECIAL DELIVERY IN SE7EN.
Simultaneously the best and worst example of Brad Pitt’s acting career, this scene is the ultimate box in a movie moment. Never has a box been so terrifying without even showing it’s contents. Leaving you to wonder what Pitt was wondering… What’s in the box???
Remember, we here at Man, I Love Films don’t do definitive lists. We do our favorites and we want to hear yours. So, make sure and tell us about them in the comments section below.

My only addition to the list would be the puzzle box from Hellraiser
I agree. The puzzle box is a good call.
The Cool Hand Luke pick is an inspired one, though.

I’d probably add the the Cube in the Cube. I know its a building or a vehicle but in all technicalities its one big box.

I thought about that one. Love that movie and that pick.

Great list. I agree with SJ … Cool Hand Luke is an inspired inclusion. My addition? Mickey Rourke’s box of popcorn (in his lap in the movie theater) in Diner.

I have tried to watch Diner 5 times and never get past the first 15 mins. It’s at the top of my streaming queue (literally #1) but something always comes up.

Oh I forgot an obvious one the box of chocolates from Forrest Gump. I mean hell its probably a top ten movie tag line of all time.
There you have a list suggestion by the way.

That’s a tough one. I’ll think about it.
Good list. And to be even more nitpicky… the pulp fiction on is technically a rectangle anyway.

True, but she does say square. So… well, this is exactly why I left it off.

Oldboy‘s box of tragic reveals is a must for this list. Runner-up: the crate (it counts as a box!) from the The Crate segment of Creepshow.

ALSO: Lemarchand’s box.

The Crate is good and definitely a box. I’m forgetting the box in Oldboy for some reason. AND I have no idea what Lemarchand’s box is.

The box in Oldboy is the purple mystery box that contains Woo-jin’s ultimate revenge on Dae-su. Or the knowledge of it. Anyways.
Lemarchand’s box is the Hellraiser box, which was mentioned in the first comment and which I failed to notice– but I think that just goes to show how iconic that little puzzle box really is!

A box with a glory hole?
Nothing quite like receiving Gwyneth Paltrow’s head in a box indeed.
What about blue box in Mulholland Dr.? Oh wait, you hate that movie ahah

If I go box in Mullholland Drive, you know where I’m going.

As soon as I saw the title for this list, I knew what #1 would be. You did not disappoint me, sir.
Sharon Stone’s counts. It also sings.
I also nominate the box from The Prestige that Jackman gets dumped in.

DUDE! I forgot that one. I would’ve put it on here. SHIT!
I saw a pretty good one recently. The box from Santa that brings Harold & Kumar back together in A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.

I think you just made Jason Soto’s day.
Will Ferrell’s juicebox.
Tallahassee’s last box of Twinkies.
Joe Pesci’s shinebox.
Steve Carrell’s big box of pornography.
Nick Cage’s bunny box.
Just had this discussion today.
