KAI’S TOP 5 MOVIE TWINS

by

In honor of the ridiculous news that Universal is developing a very timely follow-up to the 1988 film Twins (tentatively titled Triplets and featuring Eddie Murphy???), it was suggested to us by a faithful listener (@JoelBurman) on Twitter that we talk about our favorite movie twins. Great idea… let’s do it:

HONORABLE MENTION: THE GHOST TWINS (THE MATRIX RELOADED).

I was amped for these guys when the trailer for Reloaded hit the streets. I must say that there was a large difference between the expectation and execution but they were still bad-ass enough that I had to give these Albinos a nod.

5. CAMERON & TYLER WINKLEVOSS (THE SOCIAL NETWORK).

Hollywood appears to be priming Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger) to be one of their next golden boys. Let’s not forget the role that put him in that position. I had never heard of him prior to The Social Network and actually bought into the idea that actual twins were cast to play the Winklevoss twins. Armie does a great job cultivating two great characters and playing great off of, well, himself. No doubt David Fincher deserves credit for so seamlessly cutting the two performances together as well. The film, being released fairly recently, hasn’t had much time to resonate but I have no doubt this performance could move up on a list like this as more time has passed.

4. DONALD & CHARLIE KAUFMAN (ADAPTATION).

Speaking of one guy playing twins and a director (Spike Jonze) seamlessly cutting two performances together, I give you the Kaufman brothers. Essentially the same thing is going on here that went on in The Social Network only this film gets major points for, if nothing else, getting that performance out of NICOLAS CAGE!!! Not to mention that the Kaufman brothers are just much more interesting than the Winklevoss twins. Adaptation is just a smart damn film and the idea that a writer would make up a character based on himself and then create an imaginary twin brother for himself and make people think he actually had a real life twin brother is just so damn cool!

3. THE GRADY TWINS (THE SHINING).

Admittedly, I’m not a big fan of The Shining. I know… I’m on an island with that opinion. Still, the Grady twins make the list for being, in my opinion, the most iconic twins in film history. They are also just so damn creepy. I actually have a friend (named Bruce Wayne… no joke) who has twins and taught them to say (in unison): Come and play with us, forever! Believe me, that creep factor lives on over three decades later!

*****SPOILER WARNING BELOW*****

2. (THE PRESTIGE).
NOTE: IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THIS FILM, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND SKIP TO #1
!

I’ve been going back and forth on how to write this entry and decided I’m not going to say anything. In fact, I’ve all ready said too much. Let’s just say that, if you’ve seen the movie, you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, then I am jealous of you. There is an absolute gem out there waiting to be seen. Easily my favorite non-Batman movie that Christopher Nolan has made.

1. LUKE & LEIA (STAR WARS).

Ewwww… you kissed your sister, dude! Our only fraternal twins on the list also happen to be my favorite. No big shocker here. What do you expect from a documented Fanboy?

Remember, we here at Man, I Love Films don’t do definitive lists. We do our favorites and we want to hear yours. So, make sure and tell us about them in the comments section below.

NOTE: I want to dedicate this list to Man, I Love Film’s only resident, real life twin: Editorialist, Joanna Chlebus.
