HEATHER’S TOP TEN ACTION MOMENTS OF 2012

by
2012 was an excellent year for action films, one of my favorite genres, and it got me to the theatre more than I’ve been in a long time. Here’s my list highlighting some of the best moments from these movies.

10. THE AVENGERS

The fight between Captain America and Iron Man provided not only some joyous moments of action and special effects but a nice twist of comedy as well.

9. RED DAWN

“Marines don’t die, they go to hell and regroup.”  When the marines showed up everything went boom.  Big time.  Movie got astronomically better.

8. 21 JUMP STREET

The chase scene may not have been incredibly  exciting but it’s mix of creativity and humor makes it on my list.

7. THE EXPENDABLES 2

When “The Lone Wolf” our Texas Ranger Chuck Norris blow shit to oblivion and then claims he works alone it’s not only an epic moment for the film  but for the pop culture adoration of Chuck Norrisms.

6. PROMETHEUS

When the storm comes in and there is a race to get back to the ship to survive it’s not only intense but the sounds mixed with the  amazing effects is epic.6.

5. LOOPER

The final chase between himself and himself was so intense and brilliant  it made the finale particularly poignant and intense.

4. THE DARK KNIGHT

The fight between Bane and Batman is where shit gets pretty epically real.  His brute force versus Batman’s gadgets and super technical awesomeness was glory.

3. THE HOBBIT

The chase through the Goblin kingdom was creative, and some massive ingenuity  and made it seem completely plausible that such magnanimous feat could actually be accomplished by the dwarf heroes and Gandalf the bad mother fucker.

2. THE AVENGERS

The finale where the good guys are on the ground  facing imminent doom and  Iron Man is the  sky evading the big bads who are coming.

1. THE EXPENDABLES 2

Yeah, it’s on the list twice because it was  biggest movie of  the summer!  Arnie, Brucie, and  Sly. together.  Boom.  Nuff said.

Remember, we here at Man, I Love Films don’t do definitive lists. We do our favorites and we want to hear yours. So, make sure and tell us about them in the comments section below.

  • Glad to see a Prometheus moment made it here.

  • Ugh, the Hobbit scene was straight out of Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull (waterfall scene)…so lame and impossible. I wanted to love everything about The Hobbit, but that escape scene was atrocious.

Nice list though besides that one. I would have added the final battle in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2…yeah I said it! The final battle makes up for the suck factor that is the rest of the series. Epic.

  • I’d have to include the first intense hallway fight scene of The Raid and the silhouette fight in Skyfall at the top of the building in Shanghai. The opening sequence of Skyfall on the train was awesome too. I also kinda have to back Nic Cage up there on the ending battle scene in Breaking Dawn. It was definitely the best action that series put to screen and was almost comic book-y in the way it went down.

    • Agreed on the silhouette fight in Skyfall, and I could be swayed to include the komodo dragon (or was it a gila monster?) fight as well. It’s a fucking dragon!

It’s been too long to remember anything specific (which may be a telling sign), but I feel like Haywire deserves some love in a list like this.

Also…the cemetery scene in Seven Psychopaths. Boom! That’s near the top of my list fo sho.

You probably hadn’t seen Django when you made this, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see its finale on people’s lists.

      • Ah yes, Haywire! The fight between Carano and Fassbender was great. Haven’t seen Seven Psychopaths yet but the finale to Django definitely deserves a mention.
