HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!
Sure, it’s a day late but better late than never. In honor of this holiday, and all the grandma’s daughters (that’s YO MAMA!) out there, I present you with a few of my Favorite Movie Moms:
HONORABLE MENTION: MOTHER FIREFLY (THE DEVIL’S REJECTS).
I didn’t say they were all great Moms. I just said they were my favorites. She may not be a traditional mother but she supports her children. Unfortunately, she supports their need to kidnap, torture, dismember and kill. To each their own, I suppose.
5. SARAH CONNOR (T2).
I like Sarah Connor a lot and think she’s a great Mom. However, the real reason she’s on this list is because my MILFcast co-host Heather would kill me if I excluded her. In fairness to the pick, Sarah Connor basically throws her life away to protect her son and, in turn, the human race. Not only does she love her boy but she makes sure he’s ready to kick some ass when the Robo-Apocalypse comes.
4. DOROTHY & LAUREL BOYD.
Dorothy Boyd is a wonderful mother. She’d probably be the perfect mother if she wasn’t so obsessed with Jerry Maguire’s “Mission Statement”. The fact is, she leads a little too much with her heart. That’s where Laurel comes in. She acts as the voice of reason that Dorothy has ignored in her head. She also, apparently, pays the rent and bills. Let’s face it, both of these ladies are a little nutty but together they make the perfect Mom.
3. MAMA GUMP.
It’s boring pick… an obvious pick… but it just has to be on here. Mama Gump is one of the sweetest women ever to take the screen. She may not be perfect but there’s nothing she won’t do for her boy. Hell, to get him a proper education, she even slept with her kid’s principle… and that guy is a MoFo… get it?
2. ELLEN GRISWOLD (THE VACATION FILMS).
The only things Ellen Griswold lacks in the mothering department are missing mainly for the sake of comedy in these films. However, she truly is the ideal movie matriarch. She sticks by her numb-nut husband and all his screwball ideas, she loves her children with all her heart and is the glue that holds the Griswold family together when everything else is going to hell.
1. MRS. PARKER (A CHRISTMAS STORY).
As zany as this film can be, it truly is an honest look at the proto-typical mid-western family of this era. A picture of pure Americana. Mother Parker is as close a rendering to what you would want from a real Mom. Sure, if you step out of line, she’ll stick a bar of soap in your mouth. However, she also knows that Dad doesn’t need to know about every little scrap you get in. She puts up with your grizzled father and, aside from breaking the occasional lamp and making you dress up like a bunny here and there, she truly is the perfect Mom.
Remember, we here at Man, I Love Films don’t do definitive lists. We do our favorites and we want to hear yours. So, make sure and tell us about them in the comments section below.
