If you consider yourself a fan of science fiction and aren’t excited at the prospect of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, then you probably need to reconsider your fandom. The project, which is currently shooting, is Scott’s return to the genre that put him on the map and even more important than that, will have some ties to his 1979 classic Alien. The exact ties are still unknown so don’t expect xenomorphs quite yet, but there is something. With Prometheus unveiling itself to the public for the first time today at the San Diego Comic Con, the buzz around the footage shown has been mostly positive. I can’t give you any of that, but I can give you the first official image released for the movie. I hope that’s good enough. Hat tip to Shock Till You Drop for the picture.
What’s going on exactly? I have no idea, but I’m loving the look of it so far. No phony as hell CGI green screen effects here; Scott is keeping things real with actual built sets and costumes, and I want to give Prometheus an A+ already despite the movie not even being completed yet (I’m so professional, eh?). Scott’s track record is impeccable and considering Blade Runner is my favorite movie of all-time, you’re damn frothy that I want to see his return to the science fiction world. I also can’t wait to see just how this story connects into the Alien universe; the project began as a prequel/spin-off to that so I’m sure some of it remains in-tact. Either way it’s a great first image, much better than we usually get (*coughRISEOFTHEPLANETOFTHEAPEScough*).
Prometheus stars Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, and Guy Pierce amongst others. It will be released in 3D June 8, 2012. I really want next summer to get here; it already looks tons better than the one we’re currently having.
Reports on the Prometheus press conference at SDCC have also gone up over the past few minutes so head over to Badass Digest to read Devin Faraci’s coverage of the event. It’ll get you even more excited, trust me.

Nice. A rare Hollywood blockbuster that I’m actually looking forward to.
