It’s been hardly any time at all since Joss Whedon let world know that he will not be out-worked, revealing that he shot a version of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing in between creating The Avengers. Yet even though the slackers among us are still nursing our wounded prides over that slight, Whedon is giving us no time to let the shame die. Deadline reports that Whedon is already in the process of setting up Bellwether Pictures’ next film, In Your Eyes. The film is described as “supernatural romance … a metaphysical love story about two seemingly polar opposites who are deeply connected in ways neither could have ever imagined.”
The film was written by Whedon (who will also serve as executive producer), and will be produced by Kai Cole, who helped Whedon to create Bellwether Pictures, the studio responsible for both this film and Much Ado About Nothing. The movie will be directed by Brin Hill, who I personally know nothing about. Whedon seems taken by the director, though, and claims that he has an “elegant, passionate take on the piece.”
This appears to be another passion project of Whedon’s, who is quoted as saying “I didn’t have the wherewithal (or the moxie) to make it without an established production house.” Whedon goes on to credit the creation of Bellwether with not only this film’s current momentum, but “a 37% increase in moxie.” I find this whole story to be a smaller, more impressive counterpart to last week’s news that Orci and Rodreguez have created their own production shingle. Whereas those two never really had trouble getting material to screen (for better or worse) Whedon has always come off as a hugely favored but embattled craftsman. Now, though, perhaps he will have more luck getting stuff to the screen. And I am sure his publicity boost and payday from The Avengers won’t hurt either.
