JOHN CARTER GETS A NEW POSTER

by

Happy post-Thanksgiving, everyone. Now that we’ve all had time to eat, drink, be merry, and muscle our way through state-mandated time with our families, it’s time to get back to the movie bizz. And what better way to start off than by highlighting a new piece of marketing for a film I am oddly excited for, John Carter. Yes, our friends over at JoBlo are showing off the newest piece of marketing material for the adaptations of Edgar Rice Burrough’s John Carter of Mars stories.

The image itself is subtle, evocative, boldly colored, and frankly a little boring. To the best of my knowledge this movie isn’t tracking all that highly, and this isn’t the type of image that will set the web on fire. Still, it’s better than some simple logo, or a floating-head montage.

All in all, I am still waiting for something to really justify my excitement for this movie. After taking a moment to reflect over it, I think my anticipation might be entirely predicated on the music used in the trailer.

John Carter opens March 9, 2012. Plenty of time for some really interesting, engaging marketing material to hit.

  • I always hear people talking about movie adaptations of this, but I don’t know the source material. Perhaps I should? Would you recommend giving it a read?

  • Well…

That’s sort of a loaded question. I love these books, but I grew up with them. I know intellectually that they’re really pulpy and kind of stupid, but they’re a huge part of my childhood.

If you love 1920′s-style pulp (Doc Savage, Tarzan), they’re terribly entertaining.

I’m disturbingly excited about this film. I’ve been waiting for a real adaptation of this since I was about 10.
