The 21st Annual Producers Guild of America Awards were announced not too long ago and the awards were handed out this weekend. You can take a look at the complete winners and nominations on PGA’s website, but the main ones to discuss here are the big winners. Take a look below:
Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award:
The Artist – Thomas Langmann
PGA Producer of the Year Award in Animation:
The Adventures of Tintin - Peter Jackson, Kathleen Kennedy, Steven Spielberg
PGA Producer of the Year Award in Documentaries:
Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest – Debra Koffler, Frank Mele, Edward Parks, Michael Rapaport
The Artist won the Best Comedy/Musical award at the Golden Globes, so with this win it basically confirms it will be a lock for a Best Picture nomination for the Oscars when announced tomorrow. The Adventures of Tintin also continues to gain animation awards, winning the same one at the Golden Globes. At this point it basically seems to be a lock for a Best Animated Film Oscar. And seeing how the two usual contenders for that award (Pixar and Dreamworks) are lacking anything substantial this year it confirms it will most likely win in it too. Lastly, Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest is an odd win, with Project Nim winning most of the awards in this category, which makes it a potential frontrunner in the Best Documentary field.
Oscar nominations are announced tomorrow, we’ll see how all these predictions stack up!
