As the Oscar race heats up the various awards outlets are trying to get their nominees out as quickly as possible.  In a press release today the Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced their nominees.  While not as long as various other award celebrations the PGA awards are interesting in that they are one of the few that celebrates the Producer’s role in films (Oscars still have yet to have a Best Producer award, although technically the Best Picture award often includes key players in the making of a film that usually are producers).

The entire nominees list is below.  Some interesting notes:  The Producer of the Year award might as well be the shortlist for Oscars’ Best Picture, seeing as most of these films have been racking up nominations on various other awards circuits.  Ditto for animated film.  The rest of the list focuses on TV fare for the most part.  The winners will be announced on January 21, 2012
