Some of you may have heard that there was a pretty big football game on last night…
Well if you were like me (in a house filled with your closest friends, forgetting the amount of beers you drank, unable to hear much of anything because people were having too much fun) then you might have missed a few fantastic trailers for upcoming films. FOUR big summer flicks gave us some new material to chew on while we wait expectantly for the films to be released.
The Avengers
Have you heard of this one? (Note: this is actually the extended version of the trailer we saw last night)
Um… wow. As much as I retain some hesitancy with this idea (too many characters leaves some room for too much going on) this trailer leaves me very ready to see what Joss Whedon has in store for us in May. At the very least this is going to be two hours of fun. At the best, we could see the best superhero movie to date (Batman isn’t a superhero – he’s a crime fighter. Don’t get me started on this).

Battleship
Riggins!.. Sorry, had to get that out of the way… but seriously… “Friday Night Lights” fans unite!
Man, I miss that show.

I’m in. Absolutely. Yes, there are some obvious parallels to Transformers and just because things are exploding doesn’t mean it’s going to be good, but I remain hopeful. The inclusion of Liam Neeson certainly helps too.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation
For the record, I did not even see the first one because I thought it looked awful (and I maintain that belief to this day). But allow this trailer to speak for itself…
Yes! Ok, so you’re telling me that they basically substituted Marlon Wayans for The Rock and Dennis Quaid for Bruce MothaEffin’ Willis!?!? I’d say that’s two HUGE upgrades. I mean, we knew this already, but I think that each trailer has gotten better and I have this very high on my list this year. That mountain-side scene with the ninjas looks worth the price of admission alone.

John Carter
Riggins!!!! Ok, I might have a problem….
So what we have here basically is Prince of Persia plus Reverse-Thor plus funny-looking aliens (one at least who sounds like the Green Goblin). Throw in a coliseum-like situation that has me thinking back to Attack of the Clones and there’s a lot here to digest. I’ll be there to support Mr. Kitsch, but who knows, this might just surprise us all.

So what did you think? Were you satisfied by what you saw from these much-hyped spots? Is The Avengers 1 or 2 on your list this summer (please… we all know Batman rules all)? And would a healthy Gronkowski been the difference for the Patriots? Oh, sorry… still on football mode!
Sound off below!

Call me crazy but this is the kind of battleship movie I’d like to see:
Neeson: B-4
Enemy: Hit. J-1
Neeson: Ha, miss. J-10
Enemy: You sunk my battleship
“Friday Night Lights fans unite?” Seems odd to see that when you neglected to mention Tyra Collette is in this new G.I. Joe movie or that Landry Clarke is also in Battleship or that Battleship is directed by Peter Berg, the man who adapted Friday Night Lights into a TV series in the first place. Honestly, it’s like you’re an Arnett Mead fan.
Probably because I didn’t want to mention it again (http://manilovefilms.com/news/2012/01/if-i-was-posting-my-most-anticipated-films-of-2012/)…
