August used to be a dumping ground for the summer flicks that weren’t quite up to par with the rest of them. The big hits would come out of the months of May to July and then we would get the “other summer blockbusters” who’s box office totals often didn’t reach the heights of those released earlier in the season.

But over the last few years, that has changed a little, as we have seen developments in both quality and financial success from the month of August. Last year alone we got two films that not only made some big money but also was heard from again come Oscar time (The Help and Rise of the Planet of the Apes). There were also two films that hit my own personal Top 10 (Final Destination 5 and my number one, Our Idiot Brother). So maybe things are changing..

Well the makers of this big budget remake are certainly hoping that is the case…

Here comes the first footage from Total Recall starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, and Jessica Biel:

I need to qualify my interest here a bit. I have not the seen the original. I know this is heresy in some circles and I apologize. But I will be seeing it before I check this one out, to be sure. That being said, this trailer holds up on its own. I have to admit that I got a little nostalgic for Minority Report while watching the trailer (a good thing) and showing that entire shoot-out scene where Farrell takes out the police (or whatever they are) was a fantastic idea. They’re going for less overwhelming machismo for this role (obviously originated by Arnold “I have to Google him every time I write about him because I can’t spell his last name” Schwarzenegger) and I’m excited to see Farrell in a big role like this. It’s good to have him back – I’ve always been a huge fan.

But what about you? Are you tired of remakes so much that you’d skip out on a futuristic take from the guy who brought us a couple Underworld flicks and Live Free or Die Hard (Director Len Wiseman)? Or did that revelation just turn you off to it altogether? Let us know below…
