In full disclosure, I know not one thing about the story of The Great Gatsby; not this newly produced movie, not the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, and no adaptation that has ever been constructed. You can call that un-American, you can call it uneducated, or you can call it like I do, which is that I just didn’t read the damn thing, but I have to be honest about this…
This looks really really good.
Check it out for yourself:
I do enjoy me some Luhrmann (Romeo + Juliet is interesting and intense, Moulin Rouge is beautiful, although it does take itself a bit too seriously, and I have yet to view Australia, so I will have to get back to you on that one) and I am definitely a big fan of Mr. Dicaprio. Overall, the sights and sounds in this trailer are simply breathtaking and I’m surprised by how much I am gravitating towards this, but I cannot help but get excited to check this one out.
♥♥♥♥♥
Where do you stand on this? Will you be spending your Christmas with Luhrmann, Leonardo, and Spidey?

I’m definitely excited for this. My favourite Luhrmann film is actually “Strictly Ballroom”, probably his least known film.
My favorite is Moulin Rouge!, but Strictly Ballroom does come in a close second.

Looks great! Visually stunning, great choice of music for the trailer and a strong cast. Winner!
Despite currently being an English teacher, I’m not a big fan of the Great Gatsby novel. It’s a quick read, but I found it really dull up until the last chapter or so. That being said… this movie looks absolutely nothing like the book. At all. And it kind of boggles me how much praise this trailer has gotten, particularly from lovers of the book.
Despite that… I will say it does look intriguing. I’m a fan of R+J and Moulin Rouge! myself, and this looks like a visual treat. I just can’t get over how this feels so insanely opposite from the novel yet how I’ve read nothing but positive reactions thus far. It doesn’t seem natural, I tell you!
I think Carey Mulligan is the perfect choice to play the waste of a female character, Daisy Buchanan. I’m pretty sure the actress can channel Daisy’s chief attributes: weakness, simple-mindedness, and a general lack of any noticeable character motivation. It’s pretty much who she played in Drive last year.
