ALEX CROSS TRAILER

by

Well it was just two days ago that the poster for Alex Cross debuted and I ranted and raved both positively and negatively for a few paragraphs so I won’t do that again today…

Just kidding!

Here’s the trailer for the crime drama, due out in October.

I’ll say it again… why oh why is Tyler Perry in this movie? In the comments to that previous news article, our founder Dylan mentioned that Idris Elba had originally been considered for the role and IMDB confirmed that for me (sorry, boss – I had to check!). Um, why was we only considered?!? I have a problem, I guess. I want Elba in every role! I wanted him as Django, I want him as Alex Cross, and I want him in Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, due out in 2013…

Oh, I get that one? Ok, fair enough.

And I guess that’s the point that makes me okay with Perry in the title role of this. I’d rather have Elba in a tentpole blockbuster then in a Fall-release crime drama that will likely be forgotten in due time.

That being said, he’s not terrible in the trailer. And for me, the surprise is how awesome Matthew Fox looks as the villain. I mean, Dr. Jack Shepherd is nowhere to be seen in an image like this:

And good for Fox. It’ll be great to see him get to have a little fun on screen and as a huge “Lost” fan I look forward to seeing what he does with the role.

I think it’s going to come down to theater versus rental on this one. I’ll check it out, I’m sure, because crime stories like this really get me going and I enjoy a good cat-and-mouse flick. But I think the thing for me, and many like me, is if we are willing to spend $10-$14 on an evening with Tyler Perry. And I’m not sure how well that goes for the makers of Alex Cross

Is the Tyler Perry thing that big of a deal for you? Or can you pretend for an hour and a half that this man doesn’t dance around looking like this in most of his movies:

You tell me…
