James Patterson is an American novelist famous for writing crime thrillers starring the character Alex Cross. Two films have already been adapted from his works (Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider, the second of which is a pretty underrated crime flick) starring Morgan Freeman in the role of Alex Cross. Well now we’ve got a third adaptation in the works, due out in October. And since Morgan is a bit older, it looks like they’ve gone the route of prequel by bringing a young man by the name of Tyler Perry to take the reins…

Sorry. When I get frustrated, I tend to bang my head on my keyboard…
You’re telling me that there were no other “Young Morgan Freeman” types out there? Oh, well…
Alex Cross will follow the title character, a homicide detective/psychologist, as he meets his match in a serial killer (“Lost” alum Matthew Fox, an odd choice for a villain, but one that has me interested at the very least). The two face off in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, but when the mission gets personal, Cross is pushed to the edge of his moral and psychological limits in this taut and exciting action thriller.
The poster is pretty cool, to be sure. Fox does not look intimidating at all, and in all honesty, I thought maybe he was the title character. Then when I started doing a bit of research and I figured out that Perry was taking over the Freeman role, well, I was a bit disappointed. I just have this feeling that Perry might have made a better bad guy than a hero, but I guess we will wait and see…
Oh. And the slogan… “Don’t ever cross Alex Cross” – yeah, that’s awful. Let’s hope the writing in the film is better than the marketing!

Oh man, this thing looks insanely bad and deranged. I’ve got to see it.

The pics published earlier of Fox looking insane have me interested.
I read the two books that the first two movies were based on (the first books in the series) and have never read another one since, not because they weren’t good, just…because. And that was a long time ago. That said, Freeman, although good (of course), was always miscast in the role. Back in the day, it should have gone to Malik Yoba (as anyone who’d read the book and was aware of him could have told you). These days, the formerly cast Idris Elba would have been solid, but I’m curious to see if Perry can pull it off.
The poster doesn’t do much for me, though. Didn’t we learn from X-Men: First Class that people inside other people looks fucking weird? Though I actually like that Fox doesn’t “appear” scary – I think that makes him scarier.
And yeah, the tagline is brutal.
