A couple big name movies have been pushed back, leading one reporter to think that maybe, just maybe, the remake of Robocop isn’t going to be very good (yes, I’m aware this could have been realized sooner, but I was holding out hope!)…
Originally set for release on August 9, 2013, the Jose Padilha film will now open on February 7, 2014, a large set-back for a film that was already rumored to have problems on set and, of course, didn’t have a villain until the week before filming began…
Taking its place in August will be Elysium, the follow-up for director Neil Blomkamp (District 9), which was originally dated for March 1, 2013. The original sci-fi thriller stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Sharlto Copley, and while this IS a move back, it’s also a move back to the summer, possibly an indication that it’s being geared more for a big opening.
Moving away from Robocop‘s new date is Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers, the sequel, obviously, to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. It’s now set to open earlier on September 27, 2013, a move that I hope bodes well for the animated film, as I am a big fan of the original.
What does all this mean? Maybe very little… but it’s still interesting to me how when one domino falls, several others follow suit. Hollywood, man…
