SAFE HOUSE TRAILER PROMISES ACTION GALORE

by

The new action thriller staring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds got its first trailer today, and it is about what you would expect from a modern action film about a rogue CIA agent on the run from mysterious forces in South Africa.

Personally I had not heard of this film before today, and this trailer does little to increase my interest beyond what already was there. The action set pieces at least stray from the modern impulse toward overindulgent shaky-cam, but other than that everything looks about par for the course in terms of action movie language. Car chases. Gun fights. Macho shouting matches. In general Denzel Washington elevates whatever he is in, but I just don’t know how to feel about this one. Ryan Reynolds, on the other hand, needs to pick up the pieces from the dual disappointments of The Green Lantern and The Change-Up.

So what are your thoughts? Is this worth a look, or is it more worthwhile to check out the Man On Fire DVD?

  • Two of the most charming men in Hollywood in a cat-and-mouse thriller movie? Can’t wait! However, was it just me, or did this trailer really go out of its way to make you believe Brendan Gleeson was the badguy?
