This list is all about NOM NOM’s! What are the funniest, the best, the most memorable moments where food is featured as the star or a storytelling tool within? These are my top ten movies that tickle my funny bone, or just make you HUNGRY!
10. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret Of The Ooze
Toka and Razar eating the donuts with sleeping drugs inside tricked by the clever turtles!
9. Forrest Gump
As quotable a movie and Forrest Gump is the “Life Is Like A Box Of Chocolates” moment is an unforgettable moment in cinema, and even though I’m no fan of chocolate myself, it’s an endearing scene.
8. American Pie
If this doesn’t make you laugh, you don’t know funny. Though the pies end doesn’t get it eaten, it certainly does have a memorable and unforgettable scene.
7. Home Alone
All Kevin wanted was his own cheese pizza and when his older brother ate all of his pizza in spite of him, one of the first things he does when he’s alone is order that cheese pizza, just for him. The fact that he dupes the delivery guy so well is icing on the cake. “Keep the change you filthy animal.”
6. Lady and the Tramp
This is probably one of the most iconic moments in film history and fairly one of the more romantic moments in film, strangely between two animated dogs shows how great it truly is.
5. Cool Hand Luke
Paul Newman plays Lucas Jackson a prison inmate and earns the respect of his fellow inmates by eating 50 peeled boiled eggs. I like a hard boiled egg, but the idea of eating fifty is absolutely ridiculous.
4. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Eye soup, snake baby main course, and monkey brains for dessert. Only in an Indiana Jones flick where Dr. Jones has no time for love and hates snakes, so why not have them for dinner! Kate Capshaw and Short Round make this possibly gross scene hilarious.
3. The Great Outdoors
This gluttonous 96 ounce prime-beef steak was a challenge in a restaurant to see if anyone could actually eat it without blowing chunks at the end. Candy may have played a hero at eating, but this steak was bear size…….oh yes.
2. When Harry met Sally
Let’s be honest, does it even matter what Meg is eating in this scene? Her eating habits are a hysterical running theme through the flick but here it isn’t about what she eats, but how she eats it. Her demonstration to Crystal is cinema splendor, and yes fellow dinner patron, I will also have what she’s having.
1. Pulp Fiction
When Mrs. Wallace wants to go out, you take her out, when she wants to dance, you dance and when Mia Wallace chooses a restaurant like Jack Rabbit Slim’s for her faux date with Vincent Vega and a $5 shake you buy it for her, but even the dumbfounded Vega claims, “Goddamn, that’s a pretty fucking good milk shake.”

Because I don’t even remember watching Matilda!
I like the list (especially the inclusion of The Great Outdoors!). Though I can’t agree with Pulp Fiction at #1. I can see it on the list, but definitely not that high up. I feel that’s a case of the rest of the movie influencing the pick of that one scene’s inclusion. It’s a good scene, but if we’re going Pulp Fiction, I’d go with the whole Big Kahuna burger scene.
I also agree with Jess that Matilda should totally be here (as should Willy Wonka, as it’s more than an honorable mention for a list like this). Then there’s Oldboy with the eating of the live octopus. Killer Joe and the now infamous “chicken leg” scene. Annie Hall’s lobster scene. And if you count it, the Ogre scene from Pan’s Labyrinth.
I always loved the prison dinner in Goodfellas.
Also, the Baby Ruth turd in Caddyshack was kind of great.
Nice list! 🙂
I would have honorable mentions:
i) Bluto “see if you can guess what I am now” in Animal House?
ii) Stephen King’s Thinner
iii) Rocky drinking multiple raw eggs

Thanks for not mentioning that scene from Monty Python’s Meaning of Life where that guy just pukes everywhere.
